How the 569-question bank is built: facts first
EPA 608 practice questions live or die by the accuracy of the underlying facts. Every number, every date, every dollar amount in a question must trace back to a primary source, and the primary source for EPA 608 is always the Code of Federal Regulations, not a study guide and not another practice test site.
So before generating a single question I built a facts table: a structured data file where every verifiable fact in the EPA 608 domain is stored with its source citation. The civil penalty exceeds $44,539 per day per violation under 40 CFR Part 82.169. The proctored passing score is 18 of 25, which is 72%, per section. Each fact carries a source reference, a verified flag, and a last updated timestamp.
This matters because the question generator runs against the facts table, not against an AI model's own training data. When a draft question says "up to $50,000 per day," the validator checks it against the facts table and rejects it, because the current figure is over $44,539. That difference, questions checked against a verified facts table versus questions written from memory, is the whole gap between accurate and inaccurate practice tests at scale.
How the 3 layer validation works
Every generated question passes through three checks. First, a structural check: four distinct options, no duplicate answers, an explanation present, a source reference present. Second, a fact check: every number, date, and citation is cross referenced against the verified facts table. Third, a separate model pass that judges whether the explanation is accurate, whether the wrong options are appropriately wrong, and whether the question matches its tagged subtopic. Anything that fails any layer goes to a flagged file, never the live bank.
